Josh & Ellie — A Browsholme Hall Wedding in Lancashire

Josh and Ellie are two of my childhood friends, so this was never going to feel like an ordinary job. I flew over from Cyprus to photograph their day back in my home county, in a room full of people I've known since I was about eleven.

They were married on 17 July 2026 at Browsholme Hall, with the ceremony outside at the Italian Steps. This set follows the day from the last few minutes before the ceremony through the confetti and the portraits around the hall and gardens.

Shooting for friends is a strange one. You know everybody's names, which helps enormously with group photographs and hurts slightly when you'd rather be in them.

Before the ceremony

Josh and the groomsmen kept things classic in black tuxedos and bow ties.

Across the grounds, Ellie stepped out in a clean square-necked gown with a long veil and a loose bouquet of pink, peach, blue and white. She met her bridesmaids first, four of them in soft yellow, and then her dad.

Two reactions, thirty seconds apart, both worth standing back for. This is the part of a morning that's easiest to ruin by getting too close.

The Italian Steps

Ellie came down the gravel aisle with her dad, guests gathered beneath the trees and the old stone steps behind the ceremony.

The Italian Steps sit away from the hall itself, with mature trees closing the space in, so an outdoor ceremony there feels sheltered rather than exposed. That's a real advantage in Lancashire, where the weather stays a live question until about an hour beforehand.

After the vows, Josh and Ellie walked back through a burst of colourful confetti.

Around the hall

Drinks moved onto the lawn beside the hall before we took the two of them away for a short walk around the estate: along the gravel drive, through the grass and into the walled garden.

As the light softened we moved through the gardens and under the trees, finishing with a few quiet portraits against Browsholme's sandstone and the summer green behind it.

Lancashire in July gives you something Cyprus never does: soft, diffuse light that lasts for hours instead of arriving for forty minutes and leaving. No harsh midday sun to plan around, no guests hiding in shade. Just a long, even evening. It made a pleasant change, and it's the main reason this set looks gentler than most of our work on the island.
